The Nine Streets of Amsterdam is by far one of the most endearing shopping areas of the city. Absolutely adored by the locals, its warm atmosphere and picturesque, pretty stores will inspire you and inevitably capture your heart. Shopping in the Nine streets is very much about bargain-hunting and exploring.
Treading modest alley ways will reveal hidden gems which sell all sorts of unorthodox clothing, gifts, and gadgets that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else. Featuring a wide range of captivating vintage stores, mixing and matching various outfits for purchase is always a fun endeavour in the Nine Streets. In addition, the Nine Streets shopping district is home to beautiful, heartwarming cafes and restaurants, nestled amongst stunning classically-built buildings. Each trip to the Nine Streets will be a different experience from the last, as you will find yourself stumbling upon new stores each time.
The Nine Streets is centrally located, and is true to its name in physicality. Essentially, it is nine small streets connecting the main canals of the Canal Belt, spread over three blocks. The Singel and Prinsengracht are on one side, whilst the Raadhuisstraat and Leidsestraat are on the other. The Nine Streets, being in the heart of Amsterdam, is one of the best locations in the city.
The Nine streets are within a five minute walk from Dam Square, which is easily accessible from Centraal train station. Almost all trams heading towards the city center will be stopping at a stop near the Nine Streets, depending on which end you want to begin at. Buses also commute to stops near the Nine Streets or you can also try the famous hop-on hop-off canal cruise.
You can also travel to the Nine Streets by car if you are so inclined. However, driving is not one of our top recommendations in terms of getting to the Nine Streets, because the traffic can be very heavy, and parking can be hard to come by.
We would highly recommend a bike tour, as the area around it is absolutely stunning, and cycling is the best way to experience it, particularly in the long, warm days of Summer. You can also find the nearest rent-a-bike and explore the area on you own.
You are also on walking distance from the renewed Madame Tussauds, one of Amsterdam’s top attraction. We offer you the opportunity to visit this magnificent museum without waiting in line!
So when visiting Amsterdam, be sure to put some time aside for visiting the Nine Streets. It is guaranteed to be one of your most memorable experiences of the dynamic city of Amsterdam.
