The climate in Amsterdam is very much influenced by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream transporting warm water from the gulf region across the Atlantic Ocean past England and along the Dutch coast. This causes Amsterdam to have mild winters and due to the northern latitudes the summers do not get excessively hot. Amsterdam is in a coastal region so there are frequent rain showers; however heavy rain like the tropics are very rare. All our Amsterdam holiday rentals and Amsterdam apartments are fitted with excellent heating systems.
Most noticeable about the weather in Amsterdam is how fast it can turn around, so don’t ever give up on a rainy day! Rain in the morning can often be followed by a magnificent sunny afternoon. An umbrella is wise to carry around with you, as a sunny morning can turn into a rainy afternoon, which in turn can be followed by a lovely evening for a canal tour.
Below two tables with measured year average temperature and rain fall in Amsterdam in both the metric system and imperial system. Please not that because of the earlier mentioned changing weather you can for example have 1 year snow in march and the other year find yourself barbecuing on the same date.
